Pathways

Pathways is a self-funded 15 place provision for our Key Stage 2 children with SEND and additional needs who have an EHCP or are on the pathway to receiving one.

In Pathways, children receive a broad and balanced curriculum underpinned by a thorough knowledge of each individual pupil, their strengths, needs and how they learn. Huge importance is placed upon consistent routines, structure, and familiarity. The base is a caring, safe, and welcoming environment where day-to-day challenges within a busy mainstream classroom are reduced. The preferred learning styles of each child is taken into consideration and the curriculum delivered accordingly. The intent of the curriculum offer in Pathways is to introduce pupils to a range of learning experiences which enable them to succeed in their learning, becoming more independent and to develop skills needed later in life.

Amadeus

In Pathways, we have our own loving, calming influence to improve self-esteem and reduce anxiety – he comes in the form of Amadeus, our cherished therapy dog.  He works in our school as part of the ongoing provision for well-being and positive mental health. The benefits of therapy dogs include the ability to contribute to the creation of a positive classroom mood. This certainly rings true with our experience of Amadeus’ influence – he helps children to feel and stay calm simply by being present. He also teaches pupils responsibility and empathy. 

Pupils in Pathways are taught to give him the essentials which he needs to live a happy and fulfilled life, for example giving him food and water, walking him, playing with him, and loving him. His unconditional love gives each child in Pathways an immeasurable amount of support and self-worth.

Amadeus is a cockerpoo and this breed has low allergy and non-shedding qualities.
