Year 1W

Welcome to Year 1W!

A very warm welcome to Year 1. I’m Mrs Wright, and I am delighted to be your child’s teacher this year. Together, we will embark on an exciting journey as they grow into curious and independent learners.

In our class, we follow a very special golden rule: always try your best and never give up. We believe that learning should be exciting, playful, and full of discovery at this stage in our journey. Our engaging and calming classroom, along with our fantastic outdoor area, gives us the perfect spaces to learn, explore, and grow.

Continuous Provision plays an important part in our Year 1 learning. Our classroom and outdoor areas are set up with a variety of resources and activities that children can choose from independently. This allows them to follow their own interests, explore ideas, and develop new skills through hands-on experiences. Teachers support learning by observing, asking open-ended questions, and providing new challenges, helping children build confidence, independence, and problem-solving skills.

Every week, we take on new challenges that link to our current theme, which changes each half term. These challenges are designed to stretch our thinking and make learning even more fun during learning through play.

Our curriculum is full of opportunities to be curious, creative, and confident learners. Children are encouraged to take on new experiences, celebrate achievements, and develop their independence as they progress through Year 1.

At the end of Year 1, children will take part in the Phonics Screening Check to celebrate how much progress they’ve made in their reading journey.

We can’t wait for you to see all the wonderful learning that happens in Year 1!
