British Values

At Skerne Park Academy, we develop and promote British Values throughout our school and within our curriculum. A key part of our plan for education is to ensure children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

The Key British Values are:

  • The Rule of Law
  • Democracy
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs

The Rule of Law

Everyone is equal before the law and everyone has the right to a fair trial. The ‘Rule of Law’ is one of the British Values.

Democracy

A democracy culture built upon freedom and equality, where the people vote for the people who make the laws and decide how the country is run. ‘Democracy’ is one of the British Values.

Individual Liberty

Individual liberties in Britain include: the freedom to vote for whoever we like, the right to be able to move around the world freely, the right to free speech, and the ability to spend time with anyone we choose. ‘Individual liberties’ is one of the British Values.

Mutual Respect

Respecting the values, ideas, and beliefs of others whilst not imposing our own on others.

Tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs

Respecting the values, ideas, and beliefs of others whilst not imposing our own on others. ‘Tolerance of other Faiths and Beliefs’ is one of the British Values.
