Year 1/2C
Welcome to Year 1/2C!
In 1/2C with Miss Cooper, we always strive to be ready, respectful, and safe. We are fortunate to have a vibrant classroom and outdoor area, designed to extend, enrich, and challenge our learning through play-based enhanced provision. We believe that learning should be fun, engaging, and collaborative. To support this, we combine our creative curriculum with weekly challenges in spelling, reading, writing, maths, science, and foundation subjects, all linked to our current learning journey.
Our classroom is carefully designed with areas such as the studio, small world, fine motor, construction, and reading spaces. These encourage teamwork, imagination, and provide opportunities for children to practise and embed the skills and knowledge they have been taught.
Independent provision allows the adults in our classroom to work closely with small focus groups of children, supporting individual understanding and progression. As the year goes on, our classroom environment evolves to continue meeting the needs of all learners. By the summer term, the children develop the confidence and independence to make choices about their learning and select resources to support themselves, preparing them for the next stage of their journey.
Children in Year 1 will complete the statutory Phonics Screening Check, while children in Year 2 will take part in any necessary end of Key Stage 1 assessments at the end of the academic year. You can support your child at home by reading with them each night, and by practising handwriting, phonics sounds, and number facts. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the KS1 team at drop-off or pick-up times.
