RE

What do we teach? 

As a teacher of Religious Education, it is important to show open-mindedness and allow children to experience different faiths in our multi-cultural society. This allows children to be accepting of others for what they believe and also enables them to form their own opinions and express themselves. This links closely with our PSHCE curriculum and children’s understanding of British Values.

Why do we teach what we teach?

To create opportunities to talk about history and tradition, to visit different places of worship and experience a range of festivals and celebrations and express through cross-curricular learning. It is important for children to be inclusive of all people and understand… Religion is like a fingerprint… everyone is slightly different. 

Why do we teach it in that sequence?

At Skerne Park Academy children will experience a range of religious festivals and take part in different celebrations in the wider world across the school year.  Children are able to express themselves through taking part in R.E workshop sessions. Questions are layered from EYFS to Year 6 to allow children to gain a more detailed understanding as they journey through the school. This enables children to make informed opinions but also be respectful of others and have the confidence to share their own views with adults and peers around them in a safe environment. 

Please be aware that parents and carers have a right of withdrawal from all of RE or part of RE.
