Design Technology
What do we teach?
At Skerne Park Academy, we teach design and technology through the Kapow Primary School scheme. Each year group completes a project focussed on formal elements and practical skills development.
Each project follows three keys steps: Design, Make and Evaluate. During the design stage of the project pupils research, generate ideas and create models. Pupils then make their design using appropriate tools and equipment whilst adhering to health and safety rules. The final stage of the project’s pupils must evaluate their projects by evaluating, investigating and analysing their products.
Why do we teach what we teach?
The intentions of design and technology at Skerne Park Academy is for pupils to enjoy expressing themselves through a variety of designs, practical skills and their own products. The scheme developments practical skills and techniques of drawing, creating and crafting.
Why do we teach it in that sequence?
Pupils learn, develop and control the skills necessary to design, make and evaluate a variety of products. They are taught how to use various tools and equipment. Pupils take inspiration from existing products, their own ideas and their own inspirations.
These skills are revisited each year through different projects and sim to secure knowledge and skills in design and technology.
